Before the session
- Stay in touch: Let me know if arrival dates or family circumstances change so we can discuss the plan.
- Share preferences: Tell me who you would like included and whether there are specific details or family connections you hope to remember.
- Confirm the setting: Check the agreed location and ask what, if anything, you need to prepare.
- Keep normal care first: Follow your baby's usual care needs and any professional advice you have received. Do not delay feeds or keep your baby awake for photographs.
What to have nearby
- Feeding supplies: Whatever you normally use and may need during the session.
- Changing essentials: Diapers, wipes, and a spare outfit.
- Familiar items: A blanket or comfort item you already use, if you would like to bring it.
- Clothing for adults: Simple, comfortable options that feel good when sitting and holding your baby.
If the session is at home
You do not need to prepare every room or make your home look like a showroom. Ask which areas we expect to use, then focus on clearing a small amount of everyday clutter there if that feels manageable.
Keep the things you need for caring for your baby within reach. A lived-in home is not a failure of preparation.
During the session
Tell me when your baby needs care or when you need a break. No photograph is worth discomfort, and there is no need to attempt a position or prop setup you have seen online.
If someone is unwell, contact me before the appointment to discuss next steps. Your family's wellbeing comes before a photograph.
Next step: Tell me who will be included and any care, comfort, or privacy needs you want me to know about.
